The GPS sports watches market is on a roll, Garmin, Suunto, TomTom, Fitbit, Epson and other manufacturers are trying to win the market with more and more sophisticated devices that features wireless transfer connection, Bluetooth technology and

For our hikes, runs or other sports we bought a Suunto Ambit3 Peak watch. I paid around 300$ on it from Amazon.

Suunto Ambit3 Peak is a 89 g weight watch, and a 50 x 50 x 18 mm body, so it is not to small, but too big either .

It comes in a wide variety of colors like black, saphire, red, blue, a nice replacement silicone band and if you pay a little more a Suunto Smart Belt for heart rate monitoring, even in water .

Suunto Ambit3 Peak watch delivers a very accurate and stable GPS accuracy, weather information and a basic navigation in a robust case .

It includes built in altimeter, barometer, compass, GPS sensor, 100 meter water resistance and a 20 h battery life with 1 sec GPS accuracy or even 200 hours with 1 minute accuracy for longer trips or ultra runs. You can use it on multi sport and on day to day use the battery will last 30 days .

Like other new sports watches, the Ambit3 Peak can connect to your smartphone for syncing daily activities, customizing the watch on the go and seeing who’s calling or notifications on the watch screen .

When we started testing the Suunto Ambit3 Peak we were impressed by the GPS accuracy, which is the best from what we seen on the market (we own Garmin and Epson watches too) . The altitude is real because of the combination of altimeter and barometer included, it can show the weather information . Ambit3 Peak watch can download a list of GPS satellites for quicker GPS acquisition and even when the watch has not been connected to the internet long time, GPS acquisition is still reasonable.

The watch is highly configurable and you can see on the screen what ever fields you want up to 8 different pages of data, including various graphs, you can download or create apps, upload recorded data to or exported in TCX and FIT file format. The SUUNTO website can connect directly to Strava website and your runs or other sports can be uploaded automatically there .

It has also Recovery time settings, can display a map of a pre-loaded course or back to start .

For those who want high accurate data from footpod there is no way of displaying your current pace from the footpod while using GPS .

Maybe a second cons is that uses Bluetooth rather than Ant+, so it will be compatible only with Bluetooth devices .

And a third one the watch is a little bulky .

You can find also the Suunto Ambit3 watch in Run, Sport and Vertical variants, but the Peak is the best .

At 299$ the sale price (list 450$) the price is ok, like Garmin Forerunner 920XT or 630 .

For our purpose Suunto Ambit3 Peak watch it does what it says so it is a very good outdoor watch ! You can buy it from Amazon at 299$ or £233.85 .
