There was a problem sending the command to the program – Microsoft Office Word, Excel

When you open an Excel workbook you may get the “There was a problem sending the command to the program” error message on Windows 7, 8 and 10 .

You can fix this problem automatically in Excel 2003 through Excel 2016 with a small fix provided my Microsoft .

This fix can be used for all Windows operating systems .

You can download the fix from Microsoft website and follow the steps or do it your self by following the steps bellow .

In Microsoft Excel 2010 and 2013

1.Click the File tab, and then click Options.
2.Click Advanced, scroll down to the General section, and then clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.
3.Click OK.

In Microsoft Excel 2007

1.Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
2.Click Advanced, and then clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.
3.Click OK.

In Microsoft Excel 2003 or earlier versions of Excel

1.On the Tools menu, click Options.
2.Click the General tab.
3.Clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box, and then click OK.

Open the following location:
Windows 7 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
Windows 7 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes
