Sometimes when something went wrong or you just you to do some tests on your Cisco IP Phone you may want to reset it to factory settings .
To do that you need to follow some easy steps and you just need to use a POE cable or a 48V source adapter.
This tutorial applies to a wide variety of Cisco IP Phones like Cisco 7940, 7941, 7942, 7960, 7961, 7962, 7920 or 7821 .
The following data will be erased or set to default : CTL File (Certificate Trust List), LSC File (Locally Significant Certificate), IP Phone Call History (Calls Received, Placed, Missed etc), Phone application, User configuration settings, Network configuration settings .
Step 1 Unplug the power cable from the phone or the POE network cable press and hold # and then plug it back in.
The phone begins its power-up cycle.
Step 2 While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #.
Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence in amber.
Step 3 Release # and press 123456789*0#.
After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red, and the phone goes through the factory reset process.
Some phones will ask you if you want to keep network cfg 1 = yes 2 = no , so select the desired option .
Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process, and the main screen appears.
